Lone Star

Like STATE OF GRACE this is another I`m constantly surprised by how few people seem to be aware of it. Another written and directed by JOHN SAYLES about the only complaint I have about LONE STAR is it should have been called something else.....like SINS OF OUR FATHERS or something. Like STATE OF GRACE is a film about being unable to escape your past, LONE STAR is about being unable to escape the legacy of your parents. This is a down and dirty film set in Texas but it is just as much a film about Mexico. Sayles actually got an Oscar nod for his script work here making it all that much more surprising to me that nobody seems to have seen it. I mean, with Chris Cooper, Kris Kristofferson, Matthew McConaughey and Elizabeth Pena on board one would think everybody would have gone. In any case, I`m not giving any plot details away as it`s a doosie and well worth discovering for yourself. Great music, some stunning cinematography and just all around great.
